Stella Carrasco is Joining Vision and Action’s office manager and training coordinator. For more than seven years, hers has been the friendly face greeting visitors at JVA’s trainings and other events.
Behind the scenes, Stella handles the logistics for those trainings. She keeps track of registrations, orders meals (ask her about the best vegan and gluten-free spots), sends out event reminders and sets up the conference room so that when a trainer enters, all he or she has to do is train. In Stella’s role as office manager, she provides staff support, compiles and tracks data, develops and updates marketing lists and orders office supplies. Her versatility is such that on occasion Stella has assisted with subject research and conducted interviews for JVA. In December 2017, Stella played an important part in ensuring that JVA’s move to its new location (1525 Raleigh St., 5th Floor) went smoothly and efficiently. Transferring vendor info and disconnecting services were among the many tasks she handled.
Prior to joining the JVA team, Stella worked with her tribal members on community, environmental, economic and land use issues on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. Her achievements included helping the reservation to set up its own Environmental Protection Agency and Land offices.
Stella has served two terms on the Denver American Indian Commission. She previously was co-director of the board of the White Buffalo Calf Women’s Society, the first domestic violence shelter on an Indian reservation in the United States, and was active in organizing events for youth on the reservation.
