The AEC Trust is a private foundation established in 1980 as a philanthropic, grant-making organization. It is governed by an Advisory Board that sets policy and is responsible for the review of grants. The AEC Trust’s grant review committee responds more favorably to applying organizations that serve residents of Boulder, Colorado. Funding typically places a heavy emphasis on the following focus areas:

  1. Environment
  2. Education
  3. Arts & Culture
  4. Health & Human Services (particularly those which target women’s issues or people living with AIDS)

Submitted proposals should not exceed 50% of the applying organization’s total budget. Requests for endowment, annual fund campaigns, sponsorships, and special events are strongly discouraged.

Eligible applicants:

  1. Grants are awarded to charitable organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  2. No grants are made to individuals.
  3. Grants are not made to affiliates of large public charities such as The United Way, The March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, The Salvation Army, etc. Instead, AEC Trust prefers to fund organizations that do not receive wide public support.
  4. Government agencies, political and religious organizations are not eligible for funding. Occasional exceptions may be made for religious groups that provide social services for the Boulder community at large.
