Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program: Education and Workforce Development Program

Description:
The purpose of this program is to address projected shortfalls of qualified graduates in the agricultural, food, and renewable natural resources sectors of the U.S. economy. Funding will support education and training activities that focus on further enhancing the distinct components of the pipeline for developing the workforce in the food and agricultural sciences. This program will support the following types of projects:
  1. Research projects: single-function projects under this category support fundamental or applied research conducted by individual investigators, co-investigators within the same discipline, or multidisciplinary teams
  2. Education projects: single-function projects under this category develop human capital relevant to overall program goals for U.S. agriculture
  3. Extension projects: single-function projects under this category conduct programs and activities to deliver science-based knowledge and informal educational programs to people, enabling them to make practical decisions.
  4. Integrated projects: projects under this category include at least two of the three functions of the agricultural knowledge system (research, education, and extension)
