Description:
The purpose of this program is to foster a dynamic, diverse, and sustainable ecosystem for the practice, study, and appreciation of the performing arts. This program will provide funding for salaries and benefits, as well as access to a flexible research and development fund for a diverse group of American playwrights at theaters across the United States. This program intends to be an intervention into the traditional relationships between artists and institutions by reimagining what institutions might look like when an artist’s voice is at their cores. Primary goals of this program include:
  1. Advancing the state of playwrights in American theaters by providing them with space, time, resources, and greater access to the institutions in which they work
  2. Influencing the working environment of theaters by embedding playwrights in them
  3. Generating public value through the interaction of playwrights with local artistic and civic communities
  4. Documenting and disseminating the findings to help benefit the field
