Description:

It was always Lois Webster’s dream to create this fund and, when in 1995—on her 75th birthday—her friends and family generously donated, the Lois Webster Fund (LWF) was established, giving life to her dream. It should be noted that the LWF will consider projects focused on any of the state’s non-game wildlife, i.e., any of the approximately 750 species of wildlife that cannot be hunted, fished or trapped—or the habitat on which they depend in Colorado.

What Does The Lois Webster Fund Do?

  1. Inform about techniques for enhancing habitats and populations for non-game wildlife
  2. Enable researchers to find answers to interesting questions important for conservation
  3. Engage learners of all ages in research and education about Colorado’s native species

The LWF expects that most projects will focus predominantly on either research or education, but is particularly interested in proposals that include some elements of both and lead to conservation outcomes. Over the past 26 years, LWF has awarded 57 grants totaling over $120,071 to non-profits, students and teachers associated with higher education and schools, as well as local, state, and federal public land and natural resource agencies. Because grantees are required to partner with like organizations, the LWF grants have impacts far beyond their face value. Projects with multiple partners are preferred.

Eligible applicants:

– The grantee must be affiliated with a local, state, or regional nonprofit organization, an academic institution, or government agency. One individual is to serve as the contact person with the LWF.

– There must be at least one additional organization contributing to the project, and more are preferable.

– The project manager must be qualified to carry out the proposed project and have a demonstrated interest in the subject.

The LWF funds are not to be used to cover indirect costs or overhead of the sponsoring organization(s).
