Description:
The purpose of this program is to support the development and implementation of strategies to improve juvenile indigent defense. Projects will ensure that youth involved with the juvenile justice system have access to legal representation and access to resources that address the collateral consequences of justice system involvement. The program will support the funding agency’s mission to reduce violent crime by supporting states and localities in their efforts to address barriers and gaps within their juvenile justice systems in order to reduce reoffending and decrease recidivism.
The funding agency strongly emphasizes the use of evidence-based programs or practices in which their effectiveness has been demonstrated by causal evidence, generally obtained through one or more outcome evaluations.
