Deadline: 1/31/2018
Amount: $25,000
Description:
The purpose of this program is to demonstrate the value of “citizen science” for carrying out the mission of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) by supporting classification/problem-solving projects and data gathering projects. Through this program, awarded organizations will partner with the USFS to carry out citizen science efforts where individuals and organizations will conduct science-related activities in an open and collaborative format. Awarded organizations will take part in a Learning Journey Cohort where partners will innovate, learn together, and share their best practices with a larger community of practice to grow scientific knowledge. Additionally, projects must engage volunteers over a continuous period of time, and may not be single events. Ultimately, projects must support the USFS mission by adding value to their resource management, increasing their efficiency, and/or reducing their operating costs.
