Description:
The purpose of this program is to support partnerships of law enforcement/criminal justice agencies and mental health agencies with the goal of reducing crime and recidivism associated with people with mental illnesses. Awards will help recipients prepare comprehensive plans to implement collaboration programs that target qualified offenders and promote public safety and public health. Specifically, awards must be used to create or expand:
  1. Programs that support cooperative efforts by public safety officials and service providers (at any point in the system) to connect individuals with mental illness (MI) or co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse (CMISA) with treatment and social services
  2. Mental health courts or other court-based programs
  3. Programs that offer specialized training for public safety officials and mental health providers in order to respond appropriately to individuals with MI or CMISA
  4. Programs that support intergovernmental cooperation between state and local governments to address enhanced support to individuals with MI or CMISA
Funding will be provided for the following program components:
  1. (Part A): Embedding Clinicians in Law Enforcement Agencies
  2. (Part B): Support for Mental Health Centers
  3. (Part C): Mitigating Threats of Targeted Violence
