Description:
The purpose of this program is to support research that investigates the value and/or impact of the arts, either as individual components of the U.S. arts ecology or as they interact with each other and/or with other domains of American life. Funding will support research projects that engage with topics that are included in the funding agency’s FY 2017-2021 Five-Year Research Agenda, which is attached as the ResearchAgenda file. In particular, the funding agency is interested in research seeking to identify and to examine:
  1. Factors that enhance or inhibit arts participation or arts/cultural assets
  2. Detailed characteristics of arts participation or arts/cultural assets and their inter-relationships
  3. Individual-level outcomes of arts participation, including those corresponding with the following domains:
  4. Social and emotional well-being
  5. Creativity, cognition, and learning
  6. Physiological processes of health and healing
  7. Societal or community-level outcomes, including those corresponding with the following domains:
  8. Civic and corporate innovation
  9. Attraction for neighborhoods and businesses
  10. National and/or state-level economic growth
