Public Transportation on Indian Reservations Program (Tribal Transit Program)
Deadline: 8/24/2020
Amount: varies
Description:
The purpose of this program is to support planning, capital, and, in limited circumstances, operating assistance for tribal public transit services. Specific types of eligible projects include capital projects for startups, replacement or expansion projects, operating projects for startups, and planning projects.
For the purposes of this program, public transportation includes regular, continuing shared-ride surface transportation services open to the public or open to a segment of the public defined by age, disability, or low income.
Consistent with the funding agency’s R.O.U.T.E.S. Initiative, the funding agency encourages applicants to consider how the project will address the challenges faced by rural areas.
Applicants must be located and provide services in rural areas with a population of 50,000 or less. A service area may include some portions of urban areas, as long as the tribal transit service begins in and serves rural areas.
