Description:
The purpose of this program is to support proven, promising, or developing projects that can demonstrate success in helping children thrive. The program supports efforts to improve quality and encourage meaningful evaluation and assessment. Ultimately, the goal of the program is to improve the systems that serve children, with particular focus placed on projects that target underserved communities.
Awards will be provided for projects in the following areas:
  1. Early childhood education and development: projects that directly support the healthy development of very young children up to age five, including projects that focus on:
  2. Assessment and evaluation used to gauge the effectiveness of programs and progress or program participants
  3. Behavior and social competence in early learning settings with a focus on the promotion and prevention levels of behavioral health
  4. Capital improvements at licensed child care centers, including improving playgrounds, materials, and fixtures; and purchases and renovations of buildings
  5. Early childhood and preschool programs
  6. Home visitations with a focus on supporting positive parenting skills and increased child development knowledge
  7. Improvements directly related to quality, including materials, additional staff, coaching, and quality ratings
  8. Language development and early literacy
  9. Nutrition and physical activity in early learning environments
  10. Parenting education
  11. Professional development and education projects to facilitate access to college-level coursework, mentoring, or community-based trainings
  12. Teen pregnancy prevention: projects that feature proven, comprehensive, medically accurate teen pregnancy prevention activities that are facilitated by trained and experienced professionals
