Deadline: 2/1/22

Amount: $4,000

The Western Mining Action’s Network’s (WMAN) Mining Mini-Grants Program offers $4,000 in financial grant assistance to communities threatened or adversely affected by mining in the U.S. and Canada. We recognize that mining activity often has detrimental impacts to all aspects of community and cultural well-being; therefore, WMAN encourages projects that strive to protect the environment, ecosystems, cultural resources, and community health from mining impacts. Priority will be given to:

  1. Community-based grassroots groups and Indigenous organizations directly affected by mining. Our goal is to give at least 50% of the Mini-Grants to Indigenous communities because mining has had a disproportionate impact on Indigenous Peoples and their traditional lands.
  2. Proposals submitted by regional or national non-profit organizations that are specifically working on mining-specific issues.
  3. Applicants with an organizational or mining-specific program budget under $75,000.

Eligible applicants:

  1. Nonprofit Organizations
  2. Native American Tribal Government

Please note, WMAN does NOT fund the following:

  1. For-profit organizations.
  2. Proposals related to oil, gas, pipelines, fracking, or tar sands issues.
  3. Work or organizations outside of the U.S. and Canada.
  4. General operating expenses (e.g., rent, utilities, etc)
  5. Staff salaries above 10% of the total grant amount
