Pricing Your Services

Gaining Confidence that the Price is Right

Are you considering charging for your work but feeling unsure about the best strategy for pricing services? Are there people in your organization who believe that money is the root of all evil and that nonprofits should never charge for services?

Today, more and more nonprofits understand the importance of earned-income and fee-for-service models. But fear, lack of understanding of pricing and deeply held values may interfere with your organization’s ability to price services in a way that is right for it. This workshop will cover:

  • Myths about pricing services in nonprofit organizations
  • What current research shows about pricing
  • Ways to effectively price services, including various methods of calculating the “right” price
  • Why and how to offer different prices at different times and to different groups of people
  • How to conduct a cost-benefit analysis to determine when charging for services leads to a net loss
  • How to communicate internally and externally about how and why you are charging for services that might have previously been offered without charge

Join JVA for this workshop and leave with:

  • An understanding of the pros and cons of charging for services
  • An understanding of pricing models and how to apply them to goods and services your organization is producing
  • Worksheets to calculate prices for services in your organization
  • A draft communications plan to talk about pricing your services internally and externally
