Do you serve a diverse population?

Joining Vision and Action has spent nearly three decades doing culturally appropriate community engagement work in urban Denver and beyond. We have worked with thousands of organizations of all sizes and lifecycles. We’ve worked in areas of education, self-sufficiency, employment, health, nutrition, emergency services, housing and much more. This work has given JVA real insight on what communities are facing and the best ways to ensure the voices of the community are heard. JVA understands how to engage people from different communities, backgrounds and professions.

What you learn.

In this cultural responsiveness training, you will learn to appreciate a wide range of cultural backgrounds and sensitivities. Understand how to make cultural responsiveness an inherent part of how your organization communicates with its audience.

JVA has focused on cultural and linguistic competence as key elements in:

  • home visitor programs
  • family involvement programs
  • effective messaging to low-income women about nutrition and obesity
  • out-of-school-time programs
  • high school mentoring programs
  • reaching Latino older adults
  • and more.

Why train with us?

Our experience working with and on behalf of culturally and socioeconomically marginalized communities in Denver, has created an awareness among our staff members of the inherent dynamics when cultures and/or institutions interact. To help ensure the dynamics remain positive, JVA associates work in partnership with target communities to integrate culture on every level of engagement. We’re eager to share what we’ve learned and gain from your experiences, too.

JVA staff will learn from you in this class and we will all learn from each other. That’s how cultural responsiveness works. It is a journey that becomes richer with every step.
