Access to Historical Records: Archival Projects

Description:
The purpose of this program is to promote access to America’s historical records to encourage understanding of the nation’s democracy, history, and culture. Funding will support projects that will significantly improve online public discovery and use of historical records collections. All types of historical records, including documents, photographs, born-digital records, analog audio, and moving images are eligible. The funding agency is especially interested in collections of America’s early legal records, such as the records of colonial, territorial, county, and early statehood and tribal proceedings that document the evolution of the nation’s legal history. Projects supported through this program may preserve and process historical records to:
  1. Convert existing description for online access
  2. Create new online finding aids to collections
  3. Digitize historical records collections and make them freely available online
