Description:
The purpose of this program is to support the preservation and cataloging of, and access to, geological and geophysical data for research availability. This program intends to archive geologic, geophysical, and engineering data as well as maps, well logs, and samples; provide a national catalog of such archival material; and offer technical and financial assistance related to the archival material. For FY 2019, funding will support activities that fall under one of the following priorities:
  1. Priority 1 – inventory geoscience materials and update National Digital Catatog (NDC) records: NDC update activities must include complete metadata records for all existing entries in the NDC, which may require overwriting previous entries. New metadata records describing physical geoscience collections may be added to the NDC.
  2. Priority 2 – preserve geoscience data and materials: Activities under this priority involve the inventory, preservation, archiving, and/or modernization of geologic, geophysical, and engineering data as well as maps, notebooks, publications, well logs, photographs, and samples. Metadata records at the collection or individual sample level for the preserved materials must be uploaded to the NDC. In addition, geoscience images, tables, and documents may be uploaded to the NDC for long-term access and use by researchers and the public.
