The purpose of this program is to support the development of healthy and thriving communities through support for projects that promote civic pride, economic development, and revitalization. Support is targeted to specific projects that will enhance the scope of services offered by the applicant.
The program primarily supports efforts in the following areas:
- Environment: activities including providing renewable resources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and conserving and maintaining wetlands, wildlife habitats, and green spaces
- Environmental education: efforts primarily targeting middle and high school students, including environmental- and science-related projects, science fairs, and Earth Day projects
- Causes important to the area where the funding agency operates: enhancing communities through projects that make them cleaner and better places to live
