JVA Consulting announces $200,000 in awards for capacity building initiative that will engage boomers and help elders in need

JVA Consulting (JVA), a Colorado-based research and consulting firm that works with nonprofit organizations and social innovators, has announced the grant award winners for the Colorado Compassion Initiative (CCI). JVA was awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Compassion Capital Fund (CCF) to build the capacity of agencies serving and engaging baby boomers and older adults to help address community problems.

Community and faith-based organizations in the metro areas of Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins/Loveland, Greeley and Pueblo—as well as rural areas in Delta, Fremont and Mesa counties—were eligible to apply for the competitive grants process. Grantees will receive financial grants, group trainings and one-on-one technical assistance to strengthen their capacity to do their work.

“We are so excited to be working with another fantastic group of grantees engaging and serving boomers across the state,” said Jennifer Johnson, JVA’s director of CCI. “Personally, I have been impressed by the passion of all the applicants, many who work countless hours unpaid. I applaud their work and everyone at JVA is looking forward to
building the capacity of all these wonderful organizations.”

In northern Colorado, six organizations were selected to receive grant awards along with free capacity building training and technical assistance.

“The progress we have made over the last two years has been fantastic and this third year will be no exception,” said Dave Dawson, executive director of Audio Information Network of Colorado—an organization that received funding in the two previous years of CCI and was selected again for funding in Year 3. “Most nonprofits are just trying to stay alive and don’t take the time to strengthen internally—these grants make you do it.”

The northern Colorado area grantees and award amounts for Year 3 of CCI are listed below.

• Consumer Credit Counseling $5,408
• Faith Community Service Fund $5,460
• Human Services Network $5,000
• Meals on Wheels Loveland $5,000
• Ratna Peace Initiative $8,000

Along with Audio Information Network of Colorado, four other statewide organizations were also selected for CCI. The names of the organizations and the award amounts are listed below.
