JVA Consulting awards $200,000 in grants through CCI

JVA Consulting has just announced the 2008 subawardees of the Colorado Compassion Initiative (CCI), distributing $200,000 in grants to 32 Colorado faith-based and community nonprofit organizations that provide services to people 55 and older.

With funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Compassion Capital Fund, JVA Consulting directs the three-year capacity building initiative. Having served as a federal intermediary since 2002, JVA has provided technical support and/or funding to more than 360 grassroots nonprofits, distributing almost $1.5 million.

In the Denver metro area, 17 faith-based and community organizations were selected for both grant awards and free capacity building technical support from JVA Consulting. All assistance will be used to strengthen the capacity of these organizations to serve older adults in need and to use the aging baby boomer generation as a resource in their communities.

“This initiative will help local older adult-serving agencies better utilize and prepare to serve the silver mine of baby boomers in our Colorado communities,” says Kerry Lupher, JVA’s director of CCI. “At JVA, our passion is helping strengthen the impact nonprofits have in their communities. By focusing on the their internal capacities, our grantees can more effectively provide critical services to older adults.”

In addition to the Denver metro grantees, four organizations in El Paso County were funded, one in Park County, six agencies in Larimer and Weld counties, and four agencies on the Western Slope. CCI is statewide with an emphasis on four regions: Denver metro; Southern Colorado (El Paso, Pueblo, Teller and Fremont counties); northern Colorado (Larimer and Weld counties); and western Colorado (Delta and Mesa counties). CCI partners include the Center for African American Health, the Daniels Fund, Mile High United Way, the United Ways of Larimer, Mesa and Weld counties, and the Western Colorado Community Foundation.
