The Foundation Center has launched a new online interactive map linked to data on U.S. foundation giving in response to the economic downturn, according to a December 8 article in Philanthropy News Digest.

“America’s foundations are marshaling their resources to secure the social safety net at this critical time when public funding is down and service demands are up,” Foundation Center president Bradford Smith said. “The real-time information in this  map will help grantmakers fill gaps and foster collaborations to meet the pressing needs of nonprofits and the communities they serve.”

The map displays data by state, county, city, ZIP code and congressional district. The grants and program-related investments represent a range of foundations and giving interests, from forestalling foreclosures in major urban centers to emergency assistance for food, shelter, clothing and other basic needs.

No grants to organizations have been recorded on the map. However, new grants will be added to the map on an ongoing basis.
