Deadline: 1/31/2020 LOI
Amount: Unspecified
Description:
The purpose of this program is to provide seed funding for new research and development projects that are likely to improve the welfare of young children, from infancy through seven years of age. For the purposes of this program, child welfare is broadly defined to include physical and mental health, safety, nutrition, education, play, familial support, acculturation, societal integration, and child care. Projects should be of significant interest to other professionals in the applicant’s field of endeavor, and should have a direct benefit. Supported projects will also be those that are most likely to have an impact on a national scale.
Funding will support projects in the following focus areas:
  1. Early childhood welfare: projects that seek to perfect child rearing practices and to identify models that can provide creative, caring environments in which all young children thrive
  2. Early childhood education and play: projects that improve the quality of both early childhood teaching and learning through the development of innovative curricula and research-based pedagogical standards, as well as the design of imaginative play materials and learning environments
  3. Parenting education: projects that teach parents about developmental psychology, cultural child rearing differences, pedagogy, issues of health, and prenatal care and diet, as well as projects that provide both cognitive and emotional support to parents
